History

Video games first started in the early 1970’s with the first commercial arcade video game, computer space created by Nutting Associates, was introduced in 1971. In 1972 the Atari introduced pong to arcades and was created by Nolan Bushnell. Later within the same year, Magnavox released the first home video gaming system, named the Odyssey, which didn’t even have a microprocessor. The Odyssey was a board with approximately 4 dozen (48) transistors and diodes, and could produce only simple graphics and required custom plastic overlays to be taped over the television screen as well, making the Odyssey very limited. Then the Atari introduced a home version of it’s popular arcade game, pong which happened to only be sold at Sears, and even had the Sears logo on it. Pong’s extraordinary success truly opened the door to the future of video games.
